MYRION BEACH RESORT & SPA IN GERANI (KRETA)
De afgelopen weken verbleef ik het luxueuze 5 sterren “adults only” hotel Myrion Beach Resort & Spa aan de Westkust van Kreta, meer bepaald in het plaatsje Gerani. Dit hotel werd gebouwd in 2021 en biedt gasten de kans om kennis te maken met de legendarische Kretenzische gastvrijheid. Hier kan je ervaren wat de oude Grieken “de kunst van het goede leven” noemden.
Het hotel ligt niet ver van het dorpje Platanias, en zo’n vijftien minuten per auto van de bruisende stad Chania. Heel wat hotelgasten verblijven hier dan ook omwille van de centrale ligging. Die huren een auto en verkennen zo de omgeving. Want plaatsen zoals het Minoïsche paleis Knossos, de hoofdstad Heraklion, de stad Chania (vroeger de hoofdstad van een onafhankelijke staat, met 4.000 jaar aan geschiedenis), het kustdorpje Kolymbari en het kustdorpje Platanias liggen binnen bereik.
Het hotel biedt plaats aan 112 kamers en dat in verschillende types, maar allemaal gecentreerd rondom het zwembad. Verschillende kamers beschikken echter over een eigen zwembad. Vorig jaar ontving men hier maar liefst 7.000 hotelgasten, van overal ter wereld. De meerderheid komt echter uit Europa. Hier kan je genieten van het meest uitgebreide ontbijtbuffet (warm en koud) dat ik ook gezien heb. Maar er is tevens de mogelijkheid om à la carte te lunchen of te dineren. Iedere maandagavond is er een Italiaans buffet, en op woensdagavond is er een Griekse avond met live muziek. Op verschillende avonden is er live muziek in het restaurant aan het zwembad. Daarnaast beschikt het hotel over een uitgebreide spa, wellness, binnenzwembad en gym. Maar er is tevens de mogelijkheid voor paddel. De achterkant van het hotel geeft je toegang tot een strand met ligbedden die exclusief voor gebruik door Myrion-gasten zijn. En er zijn plannen om dit hotel nog uit te bouwen met nieuwe kamers.
De naam Myrion is afkomstig uit het oude Grieks en betekent “de talloze dingen om de gasten tevreden te stellen”. Men is hier dan ook in de weer om aan iedereen een informele service te verlenen. Zo wordt je bij aankomst ontvangen met een glaasje prosecco en krijg je een rondleiding. En tijdens de ganse duur van je verblijf kan je rekenen op een hoge graad van vriendelijkheid.
Een “must” dus om te bezoeken!

The past few weeks I stayed at the luxurious 5 star “adults only” hotel Myrion Beach Resort & Spa on the West coast of Crete, more specifically in the town of Gerani. This hotel was built in 2021 and offers guests the chance to get acquainted with the legendary Cretan hospitality. Here you can experience what the ancient Greeks called “the art of good living”.
The hotel is not far from the village of Platanias, and about fifteen minutes by car from the bustling city of Chania. Many hotel guests stay here because of its central location. They rent a car and explore the area. Because places such as the Minoan palace of Knossos, the capital Heraklion, the city of Chania (formerly the capital of an independent state, with 4,000 years of history), the coastal village of Kolymbari and the coastal village of Platanias are within reach.
The hotel has 112 rooms and that in different types, but all centered around the swimming pool. Several rooms have their own swimming pool. Last year, they welcomed no less than 7,000 hotel guests from all over the world. The majority, however, come from Europe. Here you can enjoy the most extensive breakfast buffet (hot and cold) that I have ever seen. But there is also the possibility to have lunch or dinner à la carte. Every Monday evening there is an Italian buffet, and on Wednesday evening there is a Greek evening with live music. On several evenings there is live music in the restaurant by the pool. In addition, the hotel has an extensive spa, wellness, indoor swimming pool and gym. But there is also the possibility for paddle. The back of the hotel gives you access to a beach with sunbeds that are exclusively for use by Myrion guests. And there are plans to expand this hotel with new rooms.
The name Myrion comes from ancient Greek and means "the countless things to satisfy the guests". They are therefore busy providing an informal service to everyone. For example, you are welcomed with a glass of prosecco upon arrival and you are given a tour. And during the entire duration of your stay you can count on a high degree of friendliness.
A “must” to visit!
