Kelly offers an early glimpse of what’s ahead with “Focus on Purpose,” the new Innervision Records single now picking up airplay and playlist adds.

Kelly’s vibrant keyboard harmonies, fanciful piano flourishes, and spacy, gurgling synth textures illuminate a rhythmic electronic R&B groove, creating a sound that feels both futuristic and familiar. Adding depth and dimension to the song’s melodic core are Miles Jenson’s electric guitar and Jason Kelly — Charles’s son — on soprano saxophone. Though the single is an invigorating instrumental, it carries embedded messages and empowering affirmations.

Last year, Kelly released Phase II, an album of transition and spirituality that bridges his You’re Not Alone album and the upcoming Transformation. Phase II pushed the envelope, inviting experimentation, redefining, and hypothesizing what contemporary jazz could become. Transformation aims to be both visionary and evolutionary for the genre. A native of Philadelphia now based near Los Angeles, Kelly is a gold-record-winning musician, songwriter, producer, music director, and film composer. He has recorded and/or performed with pop music royalty – from Stevie Wonder, Neil Diamond, Elton John, and Nile Rodgers to Sister Sledge, WHAM!, and The Pointer Sisters. De Amerikaanse singer-songwriter Chip Taylor is eergisteren op 86-jarige leeftijd overleden. Hij werd wereldberoemd als songwriter van de internationale hits ‘Wild Thing’ en ‘Any Way That You Want Me’ (The Troggs) en ‘Angel Of The Morning’ (Merrilee Rush, P.P. Arnold), maar scoorde als uitvoerend artiest ook de grote hit ‘Same Old Story’. James Wesley Voight, zoals Taylor eigenlijk heet, wordt geboren in Yonkers, New York. Hij is de broer van acteur Jon Voight en geoloog Barry Voight en de oom van actrice Angelina Jolie en acteur James Haven. In 1961 studeert James een jaartje op Archbishop Stepinac High School in White Plains, New York. Na een vergeefse poging om als professioneel golfer aan de slag te gaan (net als zijn vader Elmer Voight) besluit James zijn geluk te beproeven in de muziek business. Onder de naam Chip Taylor schrijft hij in de loop der jaren vele pop- en rocknummers, alleen of samen met Al Gorgoni, Billy Vera, Ted Daryll en Jerry Ragovoy. Zijn eerste grote hit als songwriter is ‘Wild Thing’, als eerste opgenomen door Jordan Christopher & The Wild Ones (1965) en een wereldhit voor The Troggs (1966). Taylor’s compositie ’Angel Of The Morning’ wordt eerst opgenomen door Evie Sands (1967), maar wordt een internationale hit voor zowel Merrilee Rush als P. P. Arnold (1968). Andere bekende liedjes van de hand van Chip Taylor zijn ‘I Can't Let Go’ (The Hollies), ‘The Baby’ (The Hollies), ‘Any Way That You Want Me’ (The Troggs), ‘On My Word’ (Cliff Richard) en ‘Julie’ (Bobby Fuller Four). Chip Taylor neemt zelf ook liedjes op. Dat begint in 1958 met The Town Three onder de naam Wes Voight voor het label King Records. Daarna neemt hij als solist liedjes op voor Warner Bros., Columbia en Capitol. Zijn eerste hit heeft Chip in 1962 te pakken met de single ‘Here I Am’. In de Australische hitlijst is hij een jaar later te vinden met ‘Sandy Sandy’, samen met The Town & Country Brothers. In de jaren zeventig brengt Chip Taylor niet alleen singles uit, maar ook een aantal albums. Het belangrijkste album is ‘Last Chance’ uit 1974. In 1976 heeft Taylor zijn enige solohit in Nederland, met de single ‘Same Ol' Story’, van het album ‘This Side Of The Big River’. De single bereikt de vierde plaats van de Nederlandse Top 40. Eind jaren zeventig trekt Chip zich terug uit de muziek business en wordt hij een succesvol professioneel gokker. In de jaren negentig is hij weer terug in de muziek. Hij gaat op tournee met Midge Ure, neemt weer albums en singles op en treedt op met de Mexicaanse violiste Carrie Rodriguez. Chip Taylor ruste in vrede!

De rol van Fagin zal vertolkt worden door Nordin De Moor. Met deze casting kiest Deep Bridge opnieuw voor een vaste waarde binnen hun succesvolle familiemusicals. Nordin groeide de voorbije jaren uit tot een echte publieksfavoriet, met rollen die zowel jong als oud weten te raken.

Het verhaal

Na een ellendig bestaan bij een begrafenisondernemer vlucht hij naar Londen, waar hij in handen valt van Fagin, een man die kinderen opleidt tot zakkenrollers. Ongewild raakt Oliver betrokken bij misdaden, maar hij wordt gered door goedhartige mensen die hem beschermen. Gaandeweg wordt zijn ware afkomst onthuld, en uiteindelijk vindt hij een veilige en liefdevolle thuis.

CONTEMPORARY JAZZ GUITARIST CHRIS STANDRING MARKS A WEEKEND OF CHANGE WITH NEW ALBUM AND YOUTUBE SERIES

New album Time of Change is out now; new YouTube series Love Miles & Music premiered on Sunday.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (23 MARCH 2026): Contemporary jazz guitarist Chris Standring had a milestone weekend with the release of his new album, Time of Change, on Friday (March 20), followed two days later by the premiere of his new YouTube series, Love Miles & Music, on Sunday night (March 22).

As Standring steps into what he calls the third act of his life, he’s acutely aware of the changes that have shaped him — including the loss of his father, Alistair, last year. The album’s emotional closing track, “A Song For Alistair,” serves as a musical memoir. Embracing this new era, Standring used change as the guiding motif for the eleven songs he wrote for the new Ultimate Vibe Recordings release.

Stylistically, the Billboard chart‑topping guitarist took a nostalgic turn, crafting a set rooted in retro contemporary jazz and vintage funk grooves. Standring explains the album’s creative direction:

“This album is a nostalgic journey through time. When I was writing these songs, it really took me back to a particular time in music, perhaps a golden age when sophisticated harmonies, beautiful orchestration and arranging were all the rage. I tried really hard to adopt those principles in this record. Of course, I put my own musical stamp on it so it’s not going to sound like a record by anyone else,” said Standring, who harnessed the firepower of a four-man horn section - Brandon Fields (tenor sax), Tom Saviano (alto sax), Michael Stever (trumpet), and Erik Hughes (trombone) - on four songs on this, his eighteenth album.

The first single from the new album, “Hollywood Hustle,” is swiftly moving up the Billboard and Mediabase charts. Standring recently premiered an AI‑generated video for the single, inspired by his arrival in the U.S. from his native United Kingdom in the early nineties and depicting his early years breaking into the Hollywood music scene.

Another major change in Standring’s life is his recent marriage — his first. His new YouTube series, Love Miles & Music, created with his wife, Erica, debuts this Sunday at 6pm PT/9pm ET. A new episode will air every Sunday in that timeslot. The show invites viewers to get to know the newlyweds and spans their romance, travel, and, of course, music.

A popular performer, Standring will support Time of Change with concerts booked into October across the U.S., including dates in Los Angeles, Washington, Richmond, Atlanta, Charlotte, Cincinnati, Baltimore, and Chicago as well as a show at the Catalina JazzTrax Festival.

FAYETTEVILLE, NC (9 MARCH 2026): Soul-Jazz saxophonist Reggie Codrington’s life continues to be impacted by the Ataxic Cerebral Palsy (ACP) that required him to have nine surgeries by the time he turned 13. Despite the pain, stiffness, and numerous other physical challenges that make daily living for him difficult as he approaches age 60, Codrington is hopeful, optimistic, and forward-looking — a mindset that shapes his new single, “Don’t Look Back,” already earning airplay and playlist adds.

ACP is a chronic condition affecting muscle coordination and depth perception. After learning to read music and other musical fundamentals at age five, Codrington couldn’t physically play an instrument. Surgeons cut and transferred muscles in his arm to improve finger dexterity. His desire to play music didn’t dissipate.

A few years later, Codrington’s parents drilled a mantra into his head: find a way. His father, trumpeter Ray Codrington, a professional musician who performed with Little Richard, Gladys Knight, Jackie Wilson, and appears on the Godfather soundtrack, found a way for his son when he bought a small, curved saxophone that enabled Reggie’s rigid and encumbered fingers to play the instrument.

In ninth grade, Reggie Codrington was kicked out of the high school band and told by the teacher to find something else to do. As a music major at Howard University, a professor told him to consider another career choice, saying there’s no way he would become a professional because of his lack of speed and dexterity caused by the neurological disorder. Codrington took the admonitions as a challenge and never missed a note.

“When God takes something away from you, He gives you something else. In my case, God gave me a special tone. It’s a warm sound that comes through when I play my sax. Just because you can play fast with dexterity doesn’t mean you have something special or more to say (musically). My unique tone is my gift, and it enables me to make a living as a musician,” said Codrington, who plays alto, tenor, and soprano sax on “Don’t Look Back.”

“Don’t Look Back” is Codrington’s first single produced by Nelson Braxton, who has produced multiple No. 1 Billboard singles as half of the urban-jazz duo The Braxton Brothers. The track is a midtempo R&B groove on which Codrington’s melodic phrasing across multiple horns delivers uplifting harmonies. Braxton handles all the instrumentation aside from sax and plays a nifty mid-tune guitar solo that provides contrast with its lyrical tone and fleet-footed pacing.  

“‘Don't Look Back’ came from a conversation with my mom and it is a testament to overcoming obstacles and trials. If you are going to move forward in life, you cannot afford to dwell on the past. You can’t move forward if you’re looking back,” said Codrington, whose ever-present smile can almost be heard when he plays his saxophone.

“After experiencing many disappointments, I had days where I found myself reflecting on negative things. I realized it’s okay to have a bad day but just don't stay there. Be thankful for the things that we do have. Our attitude determines our altitude.”

The new single previews Codrington’s forthcoming album The Ray Codrington Signature Series, inspired by memories of his late father. He has already released three singles from the project: “Joy In The Midst,” “Three Shades of Blue,” and “Lights.”

Born and raised in Fayetteville, North Carolina, where he still makes his home, Reggie Codrington debuted as a recording artist with 1990’s Never Let You Go album. To date, he has recorded 11 albums and five singles that have received global airplay. Codrington has collaborated in the studio with GRAMMY® winner Jeff Lorber, GRAMMY® nominee Paul Jackson Jr., and Billboard chart-topper Nils. In concert, he has opened for Ramsey Lewis, Charlie Wilson, Frankie Beverly & Maze, Peabo Bryson, Kenny Lattimore, Kim Waters, and Kevin Toney. In 2012, Codrington was invited to perform at one of the inaugural balls for President Barack Obama.

Codrington has a daily gratitude practice and lives by what he calls The Five P’s: Prayer, Preparation, Persistence, Patience, and Pay Day. A breakthrough moment in his journey came with a realization he had when he was a young musician.

“When I was learning to play, despite all my physical struggles, I realized that I didn’t have to play like John Coltrane. I don’t have to be the next Miles Davis. De Amerikaanse muzikant, songwriter, platenproducer en eigenaar van een platenmaatschappij Augie Meyers is afgelopen zaterdag op 85-jarige leeftijd overleden. Hij was de medeoprichter van de bands Sir Douglas Quintet en Texas Tornados. August ‘Augie’ Meyers werd geboren in San Antonio in de Amerikaanse staat Texas. In de beginjaren zestig richtte hij samen met Doug Sahm de Tex-Mex band Sir Douglas Quintet op. Zijn spel op het Vox orgel was een onmisbaar element in het geluid van de groep, dat flinke hits voortbracht als ‘She's About A Mover’ (1964), ‘Mendocino’ (1969) en ‘Nuevo Laredo’ (1970). In de jaren negentig was Meyers de medeoprichter van de succesvolle supergroep Texas Tornados, waarvan ook Doug Sahm, Flaco Jiménez en Freddy Fender deel uitmaakten. Vanaf de jaren zeventig bezat Meyers een aantal platenlabels, waaronder The Texas Re-Cord Company (samen met Lucky Tomblin), Superbeet Records, White Boy Records en El Sendero. Als studiomuzikant speelde Meyers mee op albums en singles van artiesten als Bob Dylan, John P. Hammond, Tom Jones, John & Mary, Tom Waits, Raul Malo en Doug Sahm. Augie Meyers was de laatste overlevende van de vier oorspronkelijke leden van The Texas Tornados. Hij ruste in vrede!

De Amerikaanse singer-songwriter en muzikant Country Joe McDonald is eergisteren in Berkeley, in de Amerikaanse staat Californië, op 84-jarige leeftijd overleden. Joseph Allen McDonald werd in de jaren zestig bekend als de leadzanger en medeoprichter van de psychedelische folkgroep Country Joe & The Fish. Hij schreef een aantal liedjes voor de groep, waarvan ‘Not So Sweet Martha Lorraine’ en ‘I-Feel-Like-I'm-Fixin'-To-Die Rag’ de bekendste waren. Laatstgenoemde was een protestlied tegen de Amerikaanse bemoeienis in de Vietnam Oorlog. Andere nummers van Country Joe & The Fish waren ‘Janis’, ‘Rock And Roll Music (Part 1)’, ‘Here I Go Again’ en ‘Hang On’. De albums ‘Electric Music For The Mind And Body’ (1967), 'I-Feel-Like-I'm-Fixin'-To-Die’ (1967), ‘Together’ (1968), ‘Here We Are Again’ (1969) en ‘CJ Fish’ (1970) verkochten met name in de Verenigde Staten erg goed. Nadat de groep in 1971 ophield met bestaan, ging McDonald verder als soloartiest. In de geest van Woody Guthrie bleef hij in zijn liedjes kritiek uiten op politieke besluitvorming. The musical fusion between Spain and the United States has a new date marked on the calendar. On March 13, 2026, artists Jeff Logan and David Margam will release 'Sun on the Run' on all digital platforms, a project born from the friendship and mutual admiration between the two musicians.

DRUMMER & ZANGER GARY WALKER (THE WALKER BROTHERS) OVERLEDEN

Gary Walker, die eigenlijk Gary Leeds heette, is op 1 maart op 83-jarige leeftijd overleden. Hij was drummer en zanger van zowel The Standells als The Walker Brothers. Zijn professionele carrière begon in 1962 toen hij werd gevraagd om deel uit te maken van The Standells. Gary toerde met deze groep in de periode 1962-1964. Hierna ging hij korte tijd op tournee met P. J. Proby. In 1964 ontmoette Gary John Walker (echte naam John Maus) en Scott Walker (echte naam Scott Engel). De twee vroegen Gary om zich bij The Walker Brothers te voegen en de artiestennaam Gary Walker aan te nemen. The Walker Brothers kende met name in de jaren 1965 en 1966 veel succes in het Verenigd Koninkrijk met de singles ‘Make It Easy On Yourself’ (Britse nummer 1 hit), ‘My Ship Is Coming In’ (Britse nummer 3 hit) en ‘The Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine Anymore’ (Britse nummer 1 hit). De laatste werd ook in Nederland een Top 10 hit. Na een Britse tournee in april 1967, waaraan ook Jimi Hendrix, Cat Stevens en Engelbert Humperdinck deelnamen, gevolgd door een tournee in Japan in 1968, werd The Walker Brothers ontbonden. Als soloartiest bracht Gary in 1966 de singles ‘You Don't Love Me/Get It Right’ en ‘Twinkie-Lee’ uit, die beide de Britse Top 30 haalden. Eind 1974 werd The Walker Brothers nieuw leven ingeblazen. Het album ‘No Regrets’ werd een succes en de gelijknamige single werd een grote internationale hit. In 1978 besloten de drie Walkers ieder hun eigen weg te gaan. In 1982 en 1991 kwamen de drie weer bij elkaar voor optredens. Gary en John Walker publiceerden in 2009 hun gezamenlijke autobiografie ‘The Walker Brothers: No Regrets — Our Story’. Ervaren actrice, zangeres en presentatrice Cara Van der Auwera stort zicht met volle overgave in haar eerste musicalavontuur als moeder van Roodkapje. Cara Van der Auwera maakt musicaldebuut

Geen grootmoeder zonder ook een moeder voor Roodkapje natuurlijk, en daarvoor tovert het creatieve team achter de sprookjesmusical een verrassing uit hun hoge hoed. Met actrice, zangeres en presentatrice Cara Van der Auwera, wordt uitgepakt met een musicaldebutante voor wie de spotlights en het podium vertrouwd terrein zijn.
 

Op televisie presenteerde ze programma's op VT4, Vijf tv en was ze o.a. reporter voor Iedereen Beroemd op VRT. Als radiopresentatrice kon je Cara Van der Auwera horen op Radio Donna, JOE en in 2014 ging ze aan de slag bij de klassieke zender Klara. Ze bracht een cd met kinderliedjes uit en trad in gans Vlaanderen op met haar band 'Cara en de Caro'kes'. Kortom, ervaring te koop, maar toch kriebelt het voor dit nieuwe avontuur.

Voor mijn allereerste musical voel ik toch wat vlinders in de buik (lacht). Roodkapje is een verhaal dat generaties verbindt. Het is dan ook bijzonder om daar deel van uit te maken. De moeder staat symbool voor vertrouwen, loslaten en beschermen. Ik vind het mooi dat zij in deze versie echt een stem en karakter krijgt. Vanaf 13 augustus 2026 wordt er met ‘Napoleon’ een gloednieuw musicalspektakel met historische achtergrond gebracht op het prachtige domein van kasteel de Merode in Westerlo. Na het enorme succes van 'Jeanne d'Arc' in 2024 rekent productiehuis Historalia daarvoor opnieuw op de gezamenlijke pen van het bevlogen schrijversduo Jelle Cleymans (liedteksten) en Jef Hoogmartens (script), en de prachtige muziek van componist Sam Gevers. 

Met Jelle Cleymans, die zijn jongensdroom in vervulling ziet gaan en ook in de huid mag kruipen van de mythische Franse keizer, en de Nederlandse musicalactrice Piek van der Kaaden als Joséphine, de eerste echtgenote en grote liefde van Napoleon Bonaparte, werden er reeds 2 hoofdrollen ingevuld.    

Vandaag - op maandag 2 maart - werd in het Paleis op de Meir in Antwerpen - in 1811 aangekocht als keizerlijke residentie door Napoleon Bonaparte, die het liet verbouwen en inrichten - de rest van de hoofdcast voorgesteld tijdens een geanimeerd persmoment.

De moeder-zoonrelatie in 'Napoleon - De Musical' zou van nature heel vertrouwd moeten aanvoelen voor zowel het publiek als de desbetreffende acteurs. De rol van Madame Mère zal namelijk vertolkt worden door Karin Jacobs, naast een ervaren actrice (Wittekerke, Lili en Marleen, Spoed, Ganesha (musical), Witse,...) ook in het echte leven de mama van Jelle Cleymans. Was 'Napoleon' voor Jelle al een bijzonder avontuur, dan maakt dit het natuurlijk nog dat tikkeltje specialer.

"Ik denk dat het voor mama makkelijker zal zijn om op de planken de rol van mijn moeder in te vullen dan dat het in de realiteit was en mogelijk nog is. Nu gaat er een script zijn en weet ze tenminste wat van mij te verwachten. (lacht) Ze weet ook hoe nauw deze productie aan mijn hart ligt en ik vind het dan ook fantastisch dat we samen dit bijzondere avontuur mogen beleven."

Ludo Hoogmartens, Erik Goris, Jervin Weckx en opkomend talent

Naast Karin Jacobs voegen ook Ludo Hoogmartens, Erik Goris en Jervin Weckx nog een stevige dosis ervaring toe aan de hoofdcast. Ludo Hoogmartens is bij het grote publiek vooral bekend door zijn rol als inspecteur Rob De Maegd in de tv-serie Aspe, maar was ook te zien in o.a. Heterdaad, Flikken, Matroesjka's, Zone Stad en Windkracht 10. In 'Napoleon - De Musical' neemt hij zowel de rol van Tsaar Alexander als die van Paul Barras op zich.

Kempenaar Erik Goris (71, Vorselaar) keert na zijn glansprestatie als bisschop Pierre Cauchon in 'Jeanne d'Arc' terug op de Historalia-planken en vertolkt de rol van de opportunistische politicus Talleyrand, premier onder Napoleon I. Erik verwierf bekendheid als acteur in Vlaamse tv-series als Vennebos, Flikken, Thuis en zeker als Rob (de man van 'zatte' Rita)  in Familie.

Multitalent en musicalbeest Jervin Weckx mag zich op zijn beurt uitleven als Joachim Murat, de Franse zoon van een herbergier die door zijn militaire carrière opklom tot koning van Napels. Jervin schitterde de afgelopen jaren in musicals als Pretty Woman, Peter Pan, School of Rock, Hairspray en A Christmas Carol, en schreef en regisseerde ook de musical Alice in Wonderland (december 2025) met o.a. Anke Buckinx en Sander Gillis.

Met de 27-jarige Melia Loi uit Zandhoven als Marie-Louise van Oostenrijk en de 28-jarige Wout Sels uit Borgerhout als generaal - en persoonlijke vriend van Napoleon - Jean Lannes, is er ook plaats voor opkomend talen in de hoofdcast. Melia wast al te zien in producties als Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Red Star Line, De Zomerrevue (Gert & James), Sneeuwwitje, Grease en Tien Om Te Zien. Sinds het najaar van 2025 vertolkt ze de rol van Elise in de VTM-soap Familie.

Wout speelde op zijn beurt al mee in o.a. de musicals 40-45, Red Star Line (rol van Desmet), 14-18 (ensemble en understudy Albert) en verder kan je zijn stem herkennen van de Disney-film Mufasa ( stem van Mufasa) en Vaiana 2, waarvoor hij de stem van Moni insprak.  Hij schrijft ook zelf muziek en wil deze binnenkort uitbrengen.

‘Napoleon - De Musical’ wordt zeker geen klassiek heldenverhaal, maar een meeslepend portret dat balanceert op de grens van mythe en realiteit. Het creatieve team stelt zichzelf en het publiek de vraag: was Napoleon een geniale strateeg, visionair en charismatisch leider, of een monster? Of ligt de waarheid in het midden?

FESTIVARIA STELT STERRENCAST VOOR VAN OPENLUCHTMUSICAL ‘JEKYLL & HYDE’

Indrukwekkende rolverdeling, 17-koppig live orkest én unieke podcastreeks.

Festivaria brengt van 21 augustus tot en met 5 september 2026 de openluchtmusical ‘Jekyll & Hyde’ naar het Donkmeer in Berlare. Met Pieter Jan De Paepe als Dr. Henry Jekyll / Edward Hyde en hoofdrollen voor Charlotte Campion, Laura Seys, Tim Saey, Nordin De Moor, Koen Crucke en Leendert De Vis staat een sterke Vlaamse topcast op scène. De productie wordt geregisseerd door Bruno Van Heystraeten en muzikaal geleid door Geert Baetens. Nieuw dit jaar is een 17-koppig live orkest én de verdiepende podcastreeks Tussen Jekyll & Hyde. Meer dan 100 figuranten en acteurs maken van deze iconische musical een groots zomers spektakel.

Tijdens een enthousiast persmoment aan het Donkmeer in Berlare stelde Festivaria vandaag de cast en het creatief team voor van de openluchtmusical JEKYLL & HYDE. Van 21 augustus tot en met 5 september 2026 wordt dit iconische verhaal voor het eerst in Vlaanderen als groots openluchtspektakel gebracht. Met meer dan 100 acteurs en figuranten op scène en een indrukwekkend creatief team belooft deze productie één van dé culturele hoogtepunten van de zomer van 2026 te worden.

Een verhaal over de mens achter het masker

De musical Jekyll & Hyde, met muziek van Frank Wildhorn en script en liedteksten van Leslie Bricusse, vertelt het aangrijpende verhaal van een man die de mens wil bevrijden van het kwaad — maar zelf ten onder gaat aan zijn experiment. Wereldberoemde nummers zoals “This Is The Moment”, “Someone Like You” en “A New Life” maken al jaren indruk op musicalpubliek wereldwijd. Tijdens het persmoment bracht de cast alvast een krachtige live medley uit de voorstelling — een voorsmaakje dat meteen duidelijk maakte hoe groots en meeslepend deze openluchtversie wordt.

De rolverdeling: een indrukwekkende cast

Pieter Jan De Paepe als Dr. Henry Jekyll / Edward Hyde

Dr. Henry Jekyll is een briljante en gedreven arts die, in zijn poging om zijn zieke vader te genezen, experimenteert met de scheiding van goed en kwaad in de mens. Zijn experiment creëert Edward Hyde: zijn gewelddadige, onvoorspelbare alter ego. Eén acteur, twee extreme persoonlijkheden — een beklijvende psychologische krachttoer.

Charlotte Campion als Lucy Harris

Lucy is een danseres en prostituee in de louche club The Red Rat. Achter haar harde buitenkant schuilt een kwetsbare vrouw die verlangt naar een nieuw leven. Ze raakt bevriend met Jekyll, maar wordt het tragische slachtoffer van Hyde. Met nummers als “Someone Like You” en “A New Life” vertolkt zij enkele van de meest emotionele momenten in de voorstelling.

Laura Seys als Emma Carew

Emma is de elegante en loyale verloofde van Jekyll. Zij vertegenwoordigt het licht, het vertrouwen en de onvoorwaardelijke liefde in zijn leven. Zelfs wanneer Jekylls gedrag steeds vreemder wordt, blijft zij hem steunen. Haar personage belichaamt de hoop en de morele zuiverheid in het verhaal.

Nordin De Moor als Gabriel John Utterson

Utterson is advocaat en Jekylls beste vriend. Hij probeert hem te waarschuwen voor de gevaren van zijn experimenten en onderzoekt de mysterieuze gebeurtenissen die Londen teisteren. Hij is de rationele stem in een wereld die langzaam ontspoort.

Koen Crucke als Sir Danvers Carew

De vader van Emma en een gerespecteerd lid van de Board of Governors van het ziekenhuis. Charmant en invloedrijk, maar bezorgd om de toekomst van zijn dochter en haar relatie met Jekyll.

Leendert De Vis als Simon Stride

Secretaris van de Board of Governors en heimelijk verliefd op Emma. Zijn jaloezie tegenover Jekyll maakt hem tot een belangrijke antagonist binnen het maatschappelijke kader van het verhaal.

Samen met een ensemble van een kleine 100 man, medewerkers zorgen zij voor een groots en meeslepend totaalspektakel.

Tim Saey als de bisschop van Basingsstoke 
The Bishop of Basingstoke in Jekyll & Hyde de Musical is een figuur die fungeert als belichaming van de hypocrisie binnen de Victoriaanse hogere kringen.

Na het succes van eerdere edities — waarin de hoofdcast voor het eerst volledig live zong — gaat Festivaria nog een stap verder. Voor het eerst in Vlaanderen wordt een openluchtmusical aan het Donkmeer begeleid door een 17-koppig live orkest onder leiding van Geert Baetens. De rijke orchestraties en arrangementen zullen live over het water weerklinken en de emotionele impact van de muziek van Frank Wildhorn nog versterken. Een unieke belevenis voor het publiek.

Nieuw: de podcastreeks Tussen Jekyll & Hyde

Daarnaast lanceert Festivaria een podcast:

 “Tussen Jekyll & Hyde” — een vierdelige podcastreeks geproduceerd door Velkroo onder leiding van Line Ellegiers, in samenwerking met Sofie Bergers, Lore Allegaert en het videoteam van Peloton en Stemcel. De podcast kan nu reeds gevolgd worden op de geijkte podcastkanalen. 

Uniek concept: De gesprekken vinden plaats in een bootje op het Donkmeer — symbolisch, reflectief en intiem. Acteurs laten het masker zakken en spreken open over hun drijfveren, twijfels, kwetsbaarheid en de minder zichtbare kanten van het artiestenbestaan. Net zoals de musical zelf draait de podcast rond dualiteit: licht en donker, façade en waarheid, controle en loslaten. Een eerlijk en menselijk portret van de artiest achter het personage.

AMERIKAANSE SINGER-SONGWRITER & PIANIST NEIL SEDAKA OVERLEDEN

De Amerikaanse singer-songwriter en pianist Neil Sedaka is op vrijdag 27 februari op 86-jarige leeftijd overleden in een ziekenhuis in Los Angeles. De in Brooklyn geboren Sedaka begon zijn indrukwekkende muzikale carrière in 1957 toen hij een studiebeurs kreeg om zich te ontwikkelen als pianist op de Juilliard School of Music's Preparatory Division for Children. Hij verkocht miljoenen platen wereldwijd en was de auteur of coauteur van meer dan 500 liedjes voor zichzelf of voor andere artiesten. Als songwriter werkte hij voornamelijk samen met jeugdvriend en tekstschrijver Howard ‘Howie’ Greenfield en met Phil Cody. Na een kort lidmaatschap van de, mede door hem opgerichte, doo-wop groep The Tokens, scoorde Neil Sedaka een reeks grote hits in de late jaren vijftig en beginjaren zestig. ‘Oh! Carol’, ‘Stairway To Heaven’, ‘Calendar Girl’. ‘Happy Birthday, Sweet Sixteen’, ‘Breaking Up Is Hard To Do’ en ‘Next Door To An Angel’ haalden de Top 10 van de Amerikaanse Billboard Hot 100 en werden ook in Europa hits. ‘Breaking Up Is Hard To Do’ werd Neil’s eerste Amerikaanse nummer 1 hit. Zijn populariteit nam medio jaren zestig wat af, maar herleefde in de jaren zeventig met de Amerikaanse nummer 1 hits ‘Laughter In The Rain’ en ‘Bad Blood’. Als songwriter bleef Neil’s succesvolle carrière nog een tijdje voortduren. Hij schreef vele hits voor anderen, waaronder ‘Stupid Cupid’ (Connie Francis), ‘(Is This the Way to) Amarillo’ (Tony Christie), ‘Love Will Keep Us Together’ (Captain & Tennille), ‘Ring Ring’ (Engelse vertaling, ABBA) en ‘Solitaire’ (The Carpenters). In 2016 kwam nog een album van Neil Sedaka uit, getiteld ‘I Do It For Applause’. Neil Sedaka ruste in vrede!

BURGEMEESTER EN EERSTE SCHEPEN GEEL WORDEN RIDDERS IN MASSASPEKTAKEL GHEELAMANIA V

 Burgemeester en eerste schepen worden ridders in totaalspektakel GheelaMania V: Lelie van het Licht

23-jarige Miek Jacobs uit Geel speelt patroonheilige Sint-Dimpna

Tijdens de vijfde editie van het groots opgezette, vijfjaarlijkse massapektakel GheelaMania krijgen de toeschouwers in Geel dit jaar een bijzondere verrassing voorgeschoteld. Niemand minder dan de plaatselijke burgemeester Marlon Pareijn en eerste schepen Pieter Cowé zullen namelijk vanaf 8 mei 2026 zelf het harnas aantrekken en als ridders de arena betreden tijdens GheelaMania V: Lelie van het Licht.

Iedere editie wordt een aparte invulling gegeven aan het indrukwekkende muzikale theaterspektakel dat gaat over het verhaal van patroonheilige Sint-Dimpna, de traditie van gezinsverpleging voor mensen met psychische problemen in Geel (erkend door UNESCO als immaterieel erfgoed) en de geschiedenis van de stad.

Burgemeester Pareijn een eerste schepen Cowé duiken in de zowat twintig minuten durende proloog van Lelie van het Licht op als respectievelijk ridder McNeal en ridder Teigh. Ridder Teigh (Pieter Cowé) is het harde, onwrikbare en rationele hoofd van de ridders aan het hof. Hij stoort zich aan de onverwachte opmerkingen van de onvoorspelbare ridder McNeal (Marlon Pareijn), die met zijn kwinkslagen het gezag van zijn baas weet te ondermijnen. 

"Leuk dat ik voor een keer de baas mag spelen over onze burgemeester, helaas luistert hij in het spektakel al even goed naar mij als tijdens het schepencollege", zo zegt eerste schepen Pieter Cowé met de glimlach. "Door onze deelname aan GheelaMania V willen we als stadsbestuur onze betrokkenheid bij het culturele leven in Geel benadrukken. De legende van Dimpna vormt dan ook het fundament onder onze Geelse samenleving, als warme zorgstad, als Barmhartige Stad. Dat zit in het DNA van elke Gelenaar."

Dat Pieter en ik door actief deel te nemen aan deze editie ons steentje hieraan kunnen bijdragen vanuit het stadsbestuur, symboliseert ook de unieke geest van Geel, de verbondenheid tussen verleden en heden, tussen onze Geelse gemeenschap en de geschiedenis."  

Miek Jacobs (23) uit Geel speelt patroonheilige Sint-Dimpna

Na de eerdere bekendmaking van de hoofdcast, met de 21-jarige Siedse Woestenborgs uit Beerse in de rol van Dana, de 17-jarige Ilias Lievens uit Geel als Berre en stadsgenoot Erwin Van de Put (56) die de rol van Declan, vader van Dana, zal vertolken, wist er nog een lokaal talent een mooie rol te strikken.

De 23-jarige Miek Jacobs uit Geel mag schitteren als Sint-Dimpna. Miek volgt zang en piano aan de muziekschool in Geel, deed eerder al mee als figurant in vorige edities van GheelaMania én schitterde ook in GheelaMania IV (2022) als Dimpna. Ze danste en figureerde ook in de populaire tv-serie #LikeMe en stond zelfs al in de AFAS Dome tijdens het Gala van de Gouden K's. Miek is erg trots dat ze opnieuw de rol van Dimpna mag vertolken in het totaalspektakel, niet in het minst gezien de link met haar mama.

Ode aan zorgzaamheid en verbondenheid

Vanaf 8 mei 2026 strijkt GheelaMania V: ‘Lelie van het Licht’ neer op het plein voor het stadhuis van Geel. In een indrukwekkende tent en adembenemend decor zullen ruim 400 acteurs, dansers en figuranten het beste van zichzelf geven.

Het spektakel wordt geregisseerd door creatieve duizendpoot en geboren Gelenaar Luc Stevens, die samen met Dirk Kennis – eveneens uit Geel – ook het auteursduo vormt. De prachtige muziek in dit meeslepende verhaal vol emotie en betoverende scènes, is van de hand van Florejan Verschueren.

‘Lelie van het Licht’ is meer dan een spektakel: het is een ode aan zorgzaamheid, aan verbondenheid, aan de unieke geest van Geel. Een stad die bekendstaat om haar warme, unieke manier van omgaan met mensen.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (26 FEBRUARY 2026): R&B/jazz singer‑songwriter and drummer Arthur Thompson will release his new album, Keep On Dreaming: Arthurized Volume 1, on March 20. The ten‑song collection blends soulful storytelling with Thompson’s mission‑driven artistry, offering messages of optimism, empowerment, mental‑health awareness, and support for people battling cancer.

Thompson’s new single, an uplifting, up‑tempo reimagining of Roberta Flack’s “I Needed You” features Billboard hitmaker Peter White, whose signature nylon‑string guitar illuminates the groove. The single that Flack penned for the 1981 feature film Bustin’ Loose has begun its ascent of the Billboard chart. 

“There was a scene in the movie starring Cicely Tyson and Richard Pryor where the characters locked eyes and this beautiful song began playing. At that time, I knew nothing about falling in love, but I felt something during that scene and the music stuck with me. The movie was about helping a group of children that the state wrote off. Fast forward, I never thought that I would grow to help children in need,” said Thompson, who founded Build A Life, Save A Life, the nonprofit home to the Math & Music and Drums Speak programs created to unite music and education for children.

Over the last few years, Thompson has released six singles featuring some of the luminaries he performs with: White, Mindi Abair, Dave Koz, Marcus Anderson, Tom Braxton, Erin Stevenson, and The Boneshakers. On his own records, Thompson also sings, using his silky tenor vocals to deliver impactful tales, inspirational messages, and stories of love and connection.

Thompson opens Keep On Dreaming with “Smile,” a 2023 single featuring Abair on saxophone. It’s a love song that Thompson wrote for the woman in his life he calls his muse. Next comes the album’s title track, which will be released as a single in May.

“Keep on dreaming, dream big, dream forever, dream beyond what you can imagine. Don’t stay in your state of discouragement. Keep believing and absolutely never give up!” enthused Thompson.

Thompson sings, scats, drums, and adds African percussion to the vivid “Oasis,” another joyous song originally recorded by Flack.

“‘Oasis’ transports you to a place where you feel safe, encouraged, and loved. It describes a longing for that special someone, a feeling of complete peace when you are apart because of the confidence you have in knowing that they will return to you. I always thought ‘Oasis’ was a beautiful song, and it has African undertones with the rhythms and drums. If you listen closely, you will hear that influence with my African Djembe, Sangban, Kenkeni, and Dununba drums,” said Thompson, who released his version as a single two years ago. 

A songwriting session with bassist Cortez Johnson and pianist Fred Smith resulted in “Missing My Father,” which was released as a single in 2023. It’s a poignant tribute brought to life by Thompson’s vulnerable yet commanding voice, Smith’s piano artistry, and Ron Reinhart’s dramatic strings. 

The mood instantly shifts to uplift on “I’m Free,” an instrumental single released last year featuring Braxton’s impassioned saxophone. Thompson sings the chorus gleefully flanked by powerhouse vocalist Stevenson.

“I had been going through some personal things that had me depressed and second guessing myself. Through meditation and prayer, I began to break through. I was able to see myself, understand my worth, and believe that all things are possible if you believe in yourself. ‘I’m Free’ is a self-awareness, feelgood song. It’s about learning to be happy with yourself, learning to walk in your own shoes, being unapologetic about who you are, and the things that you have overcome,” said Thompson, a Tulsa, Oklahoma native who lives in Nashville.

“We Can BEAT Cancer” is a deeply personal song that Thompson wrote when some of the women he’s closest to were diagnosed with breast cancer, including his sister, best friend, and the mother of his daughter. Koz and Stevenson guest on this vintage seventies R&B joint designed to encourage and create awareness of the plight that women face.

“My kind words and prayers help but I must do more to help. Millions of dollars have been raised to help with the research for a cure, but the cure remains elusive. All I can do is continue to help the research go forward and inform women about the need to have a mammogram. ‘We Can BEAT Cancer’ is my way to show that I care and that I am going to do what I can to help find a way to beat cancer without surgeries or chemotherapy,” said Thompson.

“Show Me” is a rumination about the shortcomings of a relationship based on appearance and attention. Thompson wrote the intense R&B-rocker “Where Are You Now” after a breakup sent him into a dark downward spiral.

“It was a rough time for me. I wrote the song back when you didn’t hear much about mental health before social media or cell phones. I decided to tell my story through this song while encouraging people to seek help for mental health and depression. It’s okay not to be okay. I’ve had other challenges in my life since then and I’ve made the call for help. Please don’t suffer in silence. Seek help,” said Thompson, who released the track along with a video last May during Mental Health Awareness Month.

Thompson closes the album with “Teardrops,” leaving listeners with a message of self-love underscored by Anderson’s saxophone and flute.

“Just because a person decides not to be a part of your life doesn’t mean you’re not worthy of love. Sometimes the very person you need is right in front of you. You just have to step into the light of freedom,” urges Thompson.

Thompson debuted as a solo artist in 2020 with The 7 Principles of Kwanzaa album that celebrates African heritage, unity, and culture. His soulful blend of R&B and jazz forms the backdrop for his spiritually tinged stories. Thompson was named the Breakout Artist of the Year by the Smooth Jazz Network in 2023. BRITSE SINGER-SONGWRITER PETE DELLO (THE HONEYBUS) OVERLEDEN

Afgelopen zaterdag, 21 februari, is de Engelse singer-songwriter Pete Dello op 83-jarige leeftijd overleden. Dello, die eigenlijk Peter Blumsom heette, beleefde zijn hoogtijdagen in de jaren zestig en zeventig van de vorige eeuw. Hij was de leadzanger van de band Honeybus. Later ging hij het onderwijs in als muziekleraar. Dello begon zijn carrière in het skiffle-tijdperk van de jaren vijftig en was de mede-oprichter van de rock ‘n roll band Grant Tracy & The Sunsets. Hierna werd hij lid van Steve Darbishire’s begeleidingsgroep The Yum Yum Band. Dit leidde tot de oprichting van Honeybus, die in 1968 een grote internationale hit scoorde met de single ‘I Can't Let Maggie Go". Dello wilde niet op tournee om de single te promoten en bracht in 1971 zijn solo-album ‘Into Your Ears’ uit. Twee jaar eerder had hij opnieuw de internationale hitlijsten gehaald met het studioproject Lace en de single ‘I’m A Gambler’. Daarnaast was hij te horen op plaatopnamen van Magic Valley, Leah, Red Herring en Magneta. Uiteindelijk verliet Dello de muziekindustrie in de tweede helft van de jaren zeventig. Sindsdien werd zijn solo-album ‘Into Your Ears’ een collectors item, dat in goede staat 1.200 Engelse ponden opbracht. Pete Dello schreef liedjes voor alle bands waar hij in speelde, maar ook voor The Applejacks. Zijn compositie ‘Do I Still Figure In Your Life’ is onder andere opgenomen door Dave Berry, Joe Cocker, Iain Matthews, Dave Stewart, Paul Carrack, Dana, Kate Taylor, Saturday's Crowd en Pierce Turner. Dello was ook actief als sessiemuzikant en werd ingehuurd door Unit 4 + 2 (‘Concrete And Clay’), The Scaffold (‘Lily The Pink’, ‘Thank U Very Much’) en The Roulettes. Dello’s grootste succes ‘I Can't Let Maggie Go’ kende een enorme revival toen het nummer in de jaren zeventig werd gebruikt voor een reclameboodschap van Nimble brood. Dit leverde Dello de nodige royalties op, die hij succesvol investeerde. Pete Dello ruste in vrede!

PIANIST TERRY DISLEY CHANNELS CONTEMPORARY JAZZ GREATS ON ‘TICKLIN’ THE EIGHTY EIGHTS’

The single produced by Billboard hitmaker Chris Standring pays homage to legends Joe Sample, Bob James, and Dave Grusin.

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (25 FEBRUARY 2026): Growing up in the United Kingdom, Terry Disley was inspired by American piano jazz greats Joe Sample, Bob James, and Dave Grusin. The classically trained pianist came of age in London and went on to play on two GRAMMY®‑nominated albums as a member of contemporary jazz band Acoustic Alchemy. On “Ticklin’ the Eighty Eights,” the new Ultimate Vibe Recordings single he co‑wrote with Billboard chart-topping guitarist Chris Standring, Disley puts his bright, fluid touch on full display in a tribute to the artists who shaped him.

The swinging, piano‑driven groove on “Ticklin’ the Eighty Eights” exudes heart and uplift. Bassist Andre Berry and drummer Chad Wright lay down a warm, propulsive foundation while Disley’s nimble phrasing dances across the keys. The Standring-produced single is earning airplay throughout the U.S., Australia, Germany, Poland, Spain, and the U.K.

Disley and Standring’s musical partnership dates back to their early days in London. “Ticklin’ the Eighty Eights” marks their fifth collaborative single on Standring’s Ultimate Vibe Records imprint since 2024.

“I’ve known Chris since we were playing together in our twenties. He often hired me to play in his band back then, and we stayed in touch after we both moved to America. We decided to collaborate and found success with four singles— ‘Say No More,’ ‘Bangers and Mash,’ ‘Late Night Rendezvous,’ and ‘Razzle Dazzle,’” said Disley, who lives in the Bay Area and plays two local residencies.

Disley was named Best Jazz Musician of the Year with the London-based jazz group Macondo after transitioning from classical to jazz. He toured internationally with the popular English Ska-influenced band Madness before joining Acoustic Alchemy, appearing and co-writing on six of their albums. He later spent five years as keyboardist, arranger, and occasional musical director for GRAMMY® winner Dave Stewart (Eurythmics), touring and recording extensively. His session work includes dates with Sir Paul McCartney, Van Morrison, Sir Mick Jagger, Bon Jovi, George Harrison, Tom Jones, Bryan Ferry, Billy Bragg, and Dee Dee Bridgewater. His piano work also appears in film scores including Showgirls, Beautiful Girls, The Ref, and Crime Time.

As a solo artist, Disley has released eight albums since his 2002 debut Experience and is currently working on his ninth, slated for release early 2027. His mission is to carry forward the legacy of the legendary pianists that inspired him.

SIR MONTI ROCK III (DISCO-TEX) OVERLEDEN

De Amerikaanse muzikant en diskjockey Sir Monti Rock III is gisteren op 86-jarige leeftijd in zijn woning in las Vegas overleden. Hij werd in de jaren zeventig wereldberoemd onder de naam Disco-Tex & His Sex-O-Lettes. Joseph Montanez Jr., zoals Monti Rock eigenlijk heette, werd geboren uit Puerto-Ricaanse ouders in The Bronx in New York City. Na diverse optredens in de befaamde ‘Merv Griffin Show’ in 1966, werd de extravagante Rock een vaste gast op het nationale podium van ‘The Tonight Show’. Rock werd algemeen beschouwd als een van de eerste disco-artiesten, die het grote publiek bereikten. Dat gebeurde in februari 1975 toen het album ‘Disco-Tex & His Sex-O-Lettes Review’ werd uitgebracht, een elpee met disco-nummers die geproduceerd werden door Bob Crewe. Aan het album werkte ook de muzikant Jerry Corbetta van de band Sugarloaf mee. Twee tracks op het album, ‘Get Dancin'’ en ‘I Wanna Dance Wit' Choo (Doo Dat Dance)’, werden grote hits in de Amerikaanse Billboard Hot 100 en krakers op de dansvloeren van de New Yorkse discotheken. CONTEMPORARY JAZZ SAXOPHONIST MATT WILLARD EMBRACES A NEW ARTISTIC IDENTITY UNDER THE GUIDANCE OF TWO-TIME GRAMMY WINNER PAUL BROWN

HAMPTON ROADS, Virgina. (23 FEBRUARY 2026): When contemporary jazz saxophonist Matt Willard landed at LAX last month to work with two-time GRAMMY?-winning producer Paul Brown, he arrived as the artist he had always been. A week later, he flew home with two finished tracks — and a new name: Cali Jones.

Becoming Cali Jones isn’t a marketing ploy or a rebrand. It’s an identity shift years in the making. Growing up in Virginia, Willard was captivated by the smooth, soulful West Coast sound — the music of Boney James, Richard Elliot, Peter White, Rick Braun, and other California greats who shaped his imagination.

“I always dreamed of California — not just the place, but the sound. That smooth West Coast jazz vibe felt like sunset drives, palm trees, and late-night studio sessions. It wasn’t just music to me; it was a vision,” said 27-year-old Jones, whose 2022 debut album Soul Assassin produced the Groove Jazz/Radiowave Top 5 single “Electric Shock,” also added to SiriusXM Watercolors.

Since releasing his debut, Jones has issued several singles that earned national and international airplay, building momentum while searching for the next step in his artistic evolution. Last month, as Willard, his single, “Oh Baby Baby,” went No. 1 on the Urban Influencer chart where it outranked singles by Elliot, Randy Brecker, Herb Alpert, and Samara Joy. 

Encouraged and eager to break through to the next level, Willard reached out to Brown — the producer behind more than 80 Billboard No. 1 hits, many from the very California artists who inspired him. Brown agreed, and Willard booked his first trip to Los Angeles to collaborate. What he didn’t expect was a transformation that went far beyond the music.

As the two worked together, Brown began calling him “Cali,” casually at first. “It felt natural. It felt right,” Jones recalled. A few days later, Brown posed a question that shifted everything: “Why don’t we start from scratch? Not just your sound — your whole persona.”

Willard sat with it. “I thought about the doors I wanted to walk through. The stages I wanted to stand on. The artist I was becoming — not just the one I had been. So, I made a choice. In that moment, I didn’t just change a name; I claimed an identity. From that moment on, I was no longer just dreaming of the West Coast sound — I was it. I became Cali Jones.”

Jones returned home with two fully produced tracks produced by Brown, including “Midnight Strut,” his debut single as Cali Jones, slated for release March 30 via MW Records. Brown played guitar on “Midnight Strut,” which he co-wrote with Buddy Jordan (bass, keyboards, and drum programming). Ron King guests on flugelhorn.

“Cali Jones has the silky smoothness of Boney James with the edge of Richard Elliot,” said Brown, who will start work on Jones’ next album this year.

Back home in Hampton Roads, Jones’s family and friends were receptive to the identity change.

“My family and friends have always been extremely supportive when it comes to my music. I certainly have one of the best support systems, and I am extremely grateful to have them on this journey with me. Not using my biological name has been an adjustment, but like everything, in time, it will become more natural.”

One of those nocturnal sessions sparked “Night Shift,” a hard‑grooving mix of hip-hop beats, playful piano lines, and the soulful sax of Ashley J. The track is now climbing the charts as the follow-up to Mani’s Mediabase No. 1 single, “Triangles.”

Four decades into a career that includes discovering and developing three-time GRAMMY® winner Tori Kelly and singer-actress Becky G, Mani stepped into the spotlight last spring when the sleek, funky title track to Triangles hit the airwaves. It topped Mediabase, reached No. 2 on Billboard, and ultimately became Billboard’s No. 25 single of 2025—earning Mani a Smooth Jazz Network nomination for Breakout Artist of the Year.

After that session, Mani sent the track to Ashley J, who is based in the Bay Area. “Ashley took the initial sax lines I played on synthesizer and sent her magic back, creating a dynamic energy that redefined the track,” he explained. “This single is all about fusion—urban grooves, soulful jazz chords, my piano riffs, and Ashley’s mesmerizing saxophone melodies coming together in a fresh, unforgettable way.”

February is a prolific month for Mani, as two songs he co-wrote and produced—Kathy Koskins’ “Magic Island” and Tommy Davidson’s “Red, Black and Blue”—are being released as singles. Two of Mani’s labelmates—guitarist Nils and bassist Tony Saunders—guest on Triangles. Mani anticipates performing with both artists this summer as he brings Triangles to the stage.

De officiële trailer van de musical CHESS, de nieuwe grootschalige productie van Bohemian Productions, staat vanaf vandaag online. Met deze eerste beelden licht het gezelschap een tip van de sluier op van wat een groots spektakel belooft te worden.

CONTEMPORARY JAZZ SAXOPHONIST DONALD HAYES SCORES MEDIABASE’S N° 1 SINGLE OF THE YEAR

New single “A Funky Attitude” is now collecting playlist adds.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (17 FEBRUARY 2026): Creating music from the heart — and connecting with listeners the same way — proved to be a winning formula for contemporary jazz saxophonist Donald Hayes. The lead single from his Soul Searching album, “Longing For You” featuring GRAMMY®‑nominated bassist Nathan East, was named Mediabase’s No. 1 Single of the Year.

Hayes wrote and produced “Longing For You,” a midtempo R&B/jazz instrumental for his second album, which dropped last July. In addition to Hayes’s yearning alto sax leads, the track is illumined by East’s probing basslines and the guitar finesse of Billboard chart-topper Adam Hawley. The single held the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Smooth Jazz Airplay chart for two weeks.

“I always write and perform everything heart first. I honestly believe what comes from the heart reaches the heart. ‘Longing For You’ is about passion, and I’ve gotten so many comments about how the song makes people feel. I’m grateful for that. Every time I shared the song with friends, there was an instant connection, but I never imagined it would become the No. 1 single of the year. Its success means the song reached the hearts of listeners,” said Hayes.

Hayes shares the spotlight with East on “Longing For You,” giving the bassist — known for his work with GRAMMY® winners Eric Clapton and Daft Punk and the multi‑GRAMMY®‑nominated band Fourplay — room to add his distinct signature on bass.

“It was great to have a legend like Nathan East on this track. I wanted to create space for him to stand out as a bass soloist,” said Hayes, a Memphis native now based in Los Angeles.

On Friday (February 13), Hayes released the follow-up single, “A Funky Attitude,” which he also wrote and produced for the album. This joint about female confidence derives its power from Andrew Gouche’s rubbery basslines. Drummer Jay Williams, pianist Tracy Carter, and guitarist Jonathan Dubose craft a taut rhythmic pocket from which Hayes’s slinky saxwork prowls. He said, “This song is about a woman with a lot of pride who walks into a room with her head held high in a good and confident way. There’s something really funky and cool about that to me.” 

Soul Searching also features appearances by Robin Thicke, Brian Culbertson, Russell Gunn, Andrea Lisa, Bobby Sparks (Snarky Puppy), Kirk Fletcher (Fabulous Thunderbirds), Shedrick Mitchell (Maxwell), Jonathan Richmond (Eric Benet, Boney James), and Hayes’s mentor, Derrick Jackson. Hayes describes the collection as “really personal.”

“One reason for the long gap since my first record (2016’s Front Ground) is that I feel it’s important to live, experience life, and put those experiences into your music. I want listeners to feel my heart — my joy, my pain, everything,” Hayes shared.

The album’s “Please Don’t Go” is a song that Hayes wrote about how he felt when he lost his sister a few years ago.

“I was begging her not to leave me. After ‘Please Don’t Go’ is the song ‘Pressing On.’ In spite of what we’re going through, we still have to have the courage to press on and fulfill our purpose in life.”

In addition to performing his own shows, Hayes has been accompanying Thicke for twelve years and has spent the past five years touring globally with GRAMMY®‑winning bassist Marcus Miller. WASHINGTON, DC (9 FEBRUARY 2026): For adult contemporary/jazz vocalist Sharon Rae North, The Cars’ 1984 single “Drive” has long been a favorite. The band’s biggest international hit always carried a deep well of soul, emotion, and heartbreak. When North heard it last fall for the first time in years, it evoked the same feelings she had decades ago. So, she decided to record her own version produced by two-time GRAMMY® nominee Chris “Big Dog” Davis. The independently released single is presently receiving airplay and earning playlist adds.

Determined to make “Drive” her own, North and Davis dug into the song’s pained vulnerability — Ric Ocasek’s lyrics and Benjamin Orr’s aching vocal — and began shaping a version that reflects her perspective.

In North’s capable hands, “Drive” becomes a reassuring caress to a troubled lover. Davis — architect of more than twenty Billboard No. 1 singles — builds a soulful R&B groove around her commanding yet intimate vocals, weaving in jazzy keyboard flourishes that preserve the dreamy quality of the original.

Speaking about the song’s emotional weight, North said, “‘Drive’ is deep and meaningful, and it has a certain sadness about it because of the angst and helpless feelings that come from trying to help someone who apparently doesn't want help. I've never been in that type of situation, but I imagine it's difficult to care enough to want to be there for someone who's in denial about the issues in their life or in a relationship.”

Capturing the right vocal performance was crucial. Unsatisfied with her initial takes, North quietly returned to the studio to recut the vocals.

“Unbeknownst to Chris, I went back in and recorded them again. Since he already mixed the song, he wasn't happy with me. But he beautifully remixed it and I think we’re both happy with the way it came out,” admitted North, who has concert dates coming up in Columbus (March 21 at the ICON Jazz Lounge) and Atlanta (April 12 at St. James Live!).

That trust between North and Davis was built by collaborating over 11 years. Davis helmed North’s EP, 2016’s Sincerely Yours. Davis and two-time GRAMMY®-winning producer Paul Brown teamed to produce North’s first full-length album, Silhouette, in 2022. The album was prefaced by the single “Moments” featuring saxophonist Marion Meadows in 2019.

North was an award-winning television news anchor, journalist, and reporter who held stints at local media outlets and nationally with CNN in Atlanta. Initially, she moonlit as a singer, recording and releasing The Way You Make Me Feel in 2007 and Gee Baby in 2012. Her records have been released domestically and internationally, hitting several major charts including Billboard. As a performer, North has opened shows for Brown, Patti LaBelle, Joe Sample, Adrian Crutchfield, Dee Lucas, Patrick Lamb, and others. Diepgaand muziektheater over bipolariteit en rouw vanaf 29/5 in AED Theater Lint

Vorige maand kondigde (nieuw) productiehuis Kadee Producties hun eerste voorstelling aan: Next to Normal zal de eerste productie zijn die in het nieuwe AED Theater zal spelen en dat van 29 mei t.e.m. 21 juni 2026. Een aparte voorstelling, die uitzonderlijk nog eens met liveband zal spelen, die draait rond een gezin met een bipolaire moeder die gekweld wordt door het verleden. Niet zomaar een musical dus, maar een diepgaand muziektheater waarin thema’s als rouw, eerlijkheid en puberteit aan bod komen.

De cast bestaat uit een kleine groep vol talent. Internationaal bekroonde Ann Van den Broeck staat nog eens aan de zijde van Jan Schepens, een gevestigde waarde in de Vlaamse mediawereld. Het is een blij weerzien van dit musicalduo, want het is al 17 jaar geleden dat ze samen nog eens op de planken stonden bij de musical Elisabeth.

Luka De Baets speelde aan de zijde van Camille in VTM-telenovelle Milo en staat nu op het podium als de dochter van Ann en Jan. Daan Keisse speelt de zoon in het gezin en liet zich eerder al opmerken in musicals als Lichtgevoelig en Peter Pan. 

Multitalenten Pieter Jan De Paepe en David Cantens vervolledigen de ploeg. Beiden zeer gekend en geliefd in de musicalwereld, beiden een verleden in de Vlaamse soapgeschiedenis (Pieter Jan in Thuis, David in Familie) en beiden solo bezig met eigen muziekprojecten. 

De regie van Next to Normal is in de deskundige handen van Ilse La Monaca, de Limburgse actrice die bij het brede publiek bekend werd als Brigitte Broeckx uit de Buurtpolitie. Met Next to Normal debuteert zij als regisseur.

De muzikale productie wordt in goede banen geleid door Thomas Vanhauwaert, die bij Next to Normal met een live-band zal optreden. Hij werkte al mee aan producties als 40-45, Daens, Ben X en nog veel meer. 

Kadee Producties is een nieuw, creatief productiehuis uit Booischot bij Heist-op-den-Berg. Onder leiding van Bart Vandersmissen zal dit productiehuis musicals, theatervoorstellingen en educatieve projecten ontwikkelen die een gevoelige snaar raken en/of maatschappelijk relevant zijn. Verhalen die verrassen, verbinden en een gesprek kunnen openen over minder voordehandliggende thema’s.

In Lint opent een gloednieuwe theaterzaal - AED Theater - en Next to Normal heeft de eer om als eerste voorstelling de zaal te openen.

In mei 2026 neemt Deep Bridge het publiek mee in het tijdloze verhaal van Roodkapje. De hoofdrol  wordt vertolkt door de 20-jarige Imea Denooze. Jasper Heyman pakt beestige rol als boze Wolf

Geen Roodkapje zonder een grote, boze wolf natuurlijk. Imea mag zich wat dat betreft opmaken voor een pittige strijd met een goede bekende van haar. Jasper Heyman, haar collega in De KetnetBand, kruipt namelijk in de huid van de Wolf. Jasper begon zijn carrière als prins in Prinsessia - Het Prinselijke Bal, was daarna te zien in o.a. Campus 12, Familie en speelde tot mei 2025 de rol van Adam Amary in de VRT-soapserie Thuis. Jasper kan niet wachten om aan de repetities  voor de sprookjesmusical Roodkapje te beginnen:

"Ik kijk er enorm naar uit om mijn klauwen in deze beestige rol te zetten", zo zegt Jasper Heyman. Uiteraard is de aanwezigheid van Imea als Roodkapje een leuke extra. Nadat hij onlangs een dermate memorabele 'Franse Muis' afleverde in de familiemusical Alice in Wonderland, mag Jens Sauviller dat kunstje nog eens overdoen als Jager in het sprookjesbos van Roodkapje. Ook Jietse Duthieuw maakt de overstap van Wonderland naar dat sprookjesbos en kan voor haar rol als Grapmuis vast aankloppen bij Jens voor de nodige spitsvondige tips.

Creatief team met jonge wolven en gevestigde waarde

De regie is in handen van Jozefien Grossen en Laure Ven, twee jonge, enthousiaste makers met een frisse visie op het klassieke sprookje. Het script wordt geschreven door Stany Crets, die met zijn typische mix van humor en een hart voor verhalen zorgt voor een hedendaagse, vertederende interpretatie.

PIANIST LISA ADDEO RELEASES ‘STILL NEVER ENOUGH’, BUILDING ON A BREAKOUT YEAR AS BILLBOARD’S MOST PLAYED FEMALE SMOOTH JAZZ ARTIST

MIAMI BEACH, Florida (5 FEBRUARY 2026): Contemporary jazz pianist-vocalist Lisa Addeo entered the year with a new single that builds on the momentum she generated in 2025. Addeo scored her seventh No. 1 single, “Lipstick and Moonlight,” and was the only female in Billboard’s Top 10 Most Played Smooth Jazz Artists of the Year.

Addeo’s splashy single, “Wet Bar,” was Mediabase’s Most Played Smooth Jazz Song of the Year by a female artist and was one of Billboard’s Top 10 Most Played Smooth Jazz Songs of 2025. It’s the second year in a row that Addeo had a single on Billboard’s year‑end top ten, another noteworthy accomplishment for the artist who releases her music independently via her Little Black Dress Records label.

Drawing on themes of intimate connection, the song has received over seven million Spotify streams and counting. Her updated version is poised to reach an even wider audience.

“‘Still Never Enough’ is about that quiet emotional place where love, desire, and vulnerability overlap—the feeling of giving your whole heart and still wanting more connection, more honesty, more depth. I wrote it from a very personal place, and it’s become clear that the emotion behind it is universal. Since releasing the original version, the song has taken on a life of its own. It has become my most streamed song, which is why I decided to revisit it,” said Addeo, who is based in Miami Beach.

Coming back to “Still Never Enough” after years of artistic growth benefited both Addeo and the song. NIEUWE BIOPIC ‘MICHAEL’ KOMT ERAAN

‘Michael’ is een aankomende Amerikaanse biografische musicaldramafilm, geregisseerd door Antoine Fuqua en geschreven door John Logan. De film volgt het leven van de Amerikaanse zanger Michael Jackson, die wordt vertolkt door zijn neef Jaafar Jackson in zijn filmdebuut. De cast bestaat verder uit Nia Long, Laura Harrier, Juliano Krue Valdi, Miles Teller en Colman Domingo.

De ontwikkeling begon in november 2019, toen bekend werd dat producent Graham King de rechten had verworven om een ​​film over Michael Jackson te produceren, met Logan als scenarioschrijver. Lionsgate kondigde de film aan in februari 2022. Fuqua werd in januari 2023 aangekondigd als regisseur en de casting begon diezelfde maand, toen Jaafar werd gecast; verdere casting vond plaats van januari tot april 2024. De opnames begonnen in januari 2024, na te zijn uitgesteld vanwege de SAG-AFTRA-staking van 2023, en werden in mei van dat jaar afgerond. In juni 2025 vonden er aanvullende opnames plaats. ‘Michael’ zal naar verwachting op 24 april 2026 worden uitgebracht door Lionsgate in de Verenigde Staten en Universal Pictures internationaal.

 Op 9 november 2019, exact 30 jaar na de val van de Berlijnse Muur, ging de musical 'November 89' in première in Zuiderpershuis Antwerpen. In deze spraakmakende productie over het leven achter de Muur en de studentenstrijd in het verdeelde Berlijn, schitterden de toen nog piepjonge (beiden 16 jaar) en onbekende talenten Aaron Blommaert en huidige Ketnet-wrapster Emma Vanthielen in de hoofdcast, naast o.a. de ervaren en veelgeprezen Maike Boerdam en Sébastien De Smet.   

Vanaf 10 april 2026, zeven jaar na de succesvolle eerste versie, brengt producent The Singing Factory 'November 89' opnieuw op de planken in Zuiderpershuis Antwerpen, met een nieuwe cast en in een fonkelnieuwe enscenering, op de prachtige muziek van Sam Verhoeven en in een regie van auteur Wanne Synnave.

Hoofdcast met gelauwerde musicalsterren en jong talent

Met Deborah De Ridder ('The Sound of Music', 'Oliver', 'My Fair Lady', 'Evita', 'Annie') als Sophia Holtz en Jan Schepens ('Beauty an the Beast', 'Les Misérables', 'Jesus Christ Superstar', 'Mamma Mia!') als de oudere versie (1989) van haar zoon Arend, kan The Singing Factory uitpakken met Vlaamse musical royalty. Leuke extra voor Jan is dat zijn dochter Milla (16 jaar) deel uitmaakt van het ensemble, waardoor vader en dochter voor het eerst samen op de planken staan. De Antwerpse Maud Hanssens - die de rol van Helene vertolkt - was al te zien in producties als 'Elisabeth', 'Priscilla, Queen of the desert', ZOOvertellingen, 'The Sound of Music' en 'Goodbye, Norma Jeane'. Ook Maud brengt dus de nodige ervaring en kennis mee om al het jonge geweld in de hoofdcast bij te staan.

Dat jonge geweld bestaat o.a. uit The Voice van Vlaanderen-finalist (2024) Lucas Geldof (19, Oostkamp). Lucas treedt als de jonge Arend (1961) in de voetsporen van zanger-acteur-presentator Aaron Blommaert, die deze rol in de versie van 2019 vertolkte. Lucas deelt ook het podium met zijn tweelingzus Lente, die in het ensemble het beste van zichzelf mag geven. Nog iemand die leuke schoentjes te vullen heeft, is de 20-jarige Nette Trauwaen uit Lier. Nette speelt Emily, een rol die in 2019 ingevuld werd door de huidige Ketnet-wrapster Emma Vanthielen. 

Hoofdrollen zijn er ook voor William De Winter (15, Gent) als Klaus, de 19-jarige Sebe Buermans uit Herenthout die Lenard speelt en Ella Van Dalfsen (23, Hoogstraten) als Johanna. Jeanne Herbots, de 12-jarige dochter van Lien Van de Kelder en regisseur Hans Herbots die al schitterde in o.a. 'Les Misérables' en 'Alice in Wonderland', en Elise Lagrou (12, Wingene) nemen afwisselend (wet op kinderarbeid) de rol van Lisa voor hun rekening. De 13-jarige Rocco Beaken, zoon van schrijver, performer en Antwerpse 'nachtburgemeester' Vitalski, en Gust Van Rossum (12, Londerzeel) doen hetzelfde voor de rol van Max.

Het verhaal

West-Berlijn, 1989: In de aanloop naar de val van de Muur krijgt de teruggetrokken Arend Holtz onverwachts bezoek van Helene, een jonge vrouw met scherpe vragen en een vastberaden missie. Wat begint als een zoektocht naar informatie, ontrafelt langzaam een verleden dat lang verborgen bleef, en toont hoe de keuzes van toen nog altijd hun sporen nalaten.

Oost-Berlijn, 1961: Terwijl de Berlijnse Muur de stad in tweeën splijt, raken jonge studenten verwikkeld in een strijd tussen idealen en angst. In het hart van de Studentenunie groeit het verzet, aangewakkerd door een diepgeworteld verlangen naar vrijheid. Maar in een samenleving waar elke fout fataal kan zijn, is niemand veilig, en blijkt niet iedereen te vertrouwen.

‘November 89’ werpt een unieke blik op het leven achter de Muur, op vriendschappen en families die verwoest worden en keuzes die je maakt in tijden van onrust. Deze fantastische musical speelt  vanaf 10 april 2026 in Zuiderpershuis Antwerpen.

FLUTIST DAVID CRAWFORD REMIXES ‘AFRICAN NOUVEAU’ FOR BLACK HISTORY MONTH

The official release date of the new version of the ancestrally inspired single is February 6.

LAS VEGAS, Nevada (30 JANUARY 2026): Flutist and veteran arranger David Crawford — whose credits include Patti LaBelle, Gladys Knight, Mary J. Blige, and Bill Withers — marks Black History Month with a newly remixed version of his single “African Nouveau,” officially arriving February 6.

Since releasing “African Nouveau” last fall, Crawford has been listening closely to feedback from colleagues, promoters, and fans — and the message was unmistakable: listeners wanted his flute pushed to the forefront.

“On the original version, I shared the leads with the gifted trumpeter Nolan Shaheed, a longtime friend and collaborator. Nolan played with Marvin Gaye, Miles Davis, and Earth, Wind & Fire, and I wanted his sound to offer another perspective in a conversation. The feedback I received was that people wanted to hear more flute. Nolan plays beautifully on the new version, but my flute takes the primary lead voice now,” explained Crawford.

Inspired by the continent he calls his “ancestral beginnings,” Crawford created “African Nouveau,” a vibrant, rhythm‑forward piece. He filled the track with traditional African melodies and rhythms and layered in the distinctly American sounds of modern jazz and R&B.

“African Nouveau” is the first release from Crawford’s forthcoming debut album, Something Borrowed, Something New. He plans to roll out several singles ahead of the album’s release.

A native of Compton, California who now lives in Las Vegas, Crawford earned a master’s degree in music at California Institute of the Arts. He’s a composer, producer, and arranger. Crawford produced Vesta Williams’ Billboard R&B top ten single “Once Bitten, Twice Shy” and several tracks from R&B group Woods Empire. He has performed with Stevie Wonder and Isaac Hayes, and recorded with Ahmad Jamal and The Temptations. A seasoned orchestral performer, he has appeared with the Afro‑American Chamber Music Society Orchestra, Santa Monica Symphony, and Burbank Philharmonic.

REMEMBERING JAMES INGRAM

(January 16, 1952 - January 29, 2019)

The soulful singer, songwriter, and record producer extraordinaire passed away after battling brain cancer at the age of 66. He scored his earliest major successes in collaboration with producer Quincy Jones, recording the Top 20 singles 'Just Once' and 'One Hundred Ways', the latter earning his first Grammy award. His debut album 'It's Your Night' (1983) featured 'Yah Mo B There', a duet with Michael McDonald that won a Grammy. Ingram received a total of 14 Grammy nominations. His duet with Linda Ronstadt on 'Somewhere Out There' reached No 2 in the US and No 8 in the UK in 1987.

As a composer, Ingram co-wrote 'PYT (Pretty Young Thing)' with Jones for Michael Jackson's album 'Thriller' (1982) and also wrote material for Ray Charles and the Pointer Sisters. He joined Jones, Jackson, and numerous other stars for the charity single and video 'We Are the World' (1985).

Today, he is remembered not just for his technical skill but for the profound emotional depth he brought to every performance.

In 2018 maakte de wereld dankzij ‘America’s Got Talent’ kennis met de grenzeloze zangcapaciteiten van de Nederlandse Glennis Grace. Ze blies er de jury, het publiek en de miljoenen tv-kijkers een eerste keer omver met haar indrukwekkende versie van de Whitney-classic ‘Run To You’. De toon was meteen letterlijk gezet en de ravissante Nederlandse stoomde helemaal door tot in de finale.

Geruggesteund door deze indrukwekkende prestatie en de lovende commentaren, concerteerde Glennis in oktober 2018 voor het eerst met haar muzikale eerbetoon ‘WHITNEY, a tribute by Glennis Grace’ in een uitverkochte AFAS Live in Amsterdam. Uit de enthousiaste reacties van het publiek en de lovende recensies na afloop, bleek eens te meer dat de muziek van Whitney Houston de mensen in vervoering blijft brengen en Glennis Grace werd door pers en publiek geroemd om haar stemgeluid en bezieling.

"Fenomenaal", "Onwaarschijnlijk straf", "Wat een stem", "Whitney is alive!",... aan superlatieven ook geen gebrek tijdens en na afloop van de indrukwekkende Whitney-tribute die Glennis op 26 oktober 2019 in een tot de nok gevulde Lotto Arena bracht. Een duidelijk geëmotioneerde Glennis keek, na de door het publiek gevraagde bisnummers, met een gelukzalige verbazing naar de minutenlange staande ovatie die haar en haar band te beurt viel in Antwerpen. Het publiek had met volle teugen genoten van de vocale orkaan Glennis, die gedurende 2,5u door de Lotto Arena raasde en hen stuk voor stuk met open mond had achtergelaten.

Op 6 november 2026, zeven jaar na haar vorige veroveringstocht, keert Glennis Grace terug naar het podium van de Lotto Arena. Een afspraak waar de Nederlandse nachtegaal naar eigen zeggen enorm naar uitkijkt:

“Die avond in 2019 in de Lotto Arena was echt magisch. Het was eigenlijk mijn eerste kennismaking met het Belgische publiek – en dat meteen op zo’n groot podium - en ik was in aanloop echt op van de zenuwen. Die zenuwen verdwenen bijna instant na het eerste nummer, toen er een heel warm en enthousiast applaus losbarstte. Het Belgische publiek luistert heel respectvol en geconcentreerd, en is daardoor wat stiller tijdens de nummers dan bv. in Nederland. Dat was in het begin wel een beetje wennen voor mij, maar voor een artiest is dat best wel heel dankbaar. Wanneer ze dan na enkele liedjes helemaal loskwamen, ging het dak er wel stevig af hoor (lacht). Ik hoop dat ik de mensen op 6 november in de Lotto Arena nog eens zo’n avond mag bezorgen met de prachtige muziek van Whitney Houston.”

De Jamaicaanse drummer, producer (onder andere ‘Underneath It All’ van No Doubt) en songwriter (onder andere ‘Murder She Wrote’ van Chaka Demus & Pliers) Sly Dunbar is gisteren 26 januari op 73-jarige leeftijd overleden. Dunbar werd bekend als de helft van het befaamde reggae-productie duo Sly & Robbie (Shakespeare) en speelde mee op tientallen albums van gerenommeerde artiesten als Joan Armatrading, Ian Dury, Mick Jagger, Gary Barlow, Dennis Brown, Jackson Browne, Jimmy Cliff, Joe Cocker, Bootsy Collins, Carlene Davis, Bob Dylan, Gwen Guthrie, Nona Hendryx, Garland Jeffreys, Grace Jones, Ziggy Marley, Sinead O’Connor, Carly Simon, Simply Red, The Rolling Stones, Peter Tosh en Serge Gainsbourg. Lowell Fillmore ‘Sly’ Dunbar werd geboren in Kingston, de hoofdstad van Jamaica. Hij begon met drummen op zijn vijftiende in de band The Yardbrooms. Hij was voor het eerst als drummer te horen op de wereldhit ‘Double Barrel’ van Dave & Ansell Collins. Vervolgens voegde hij zich bij een band met Ansell Collins, die Skin, Flesh & Bones heette. Zijn inspiratie ontleende Dunbar aan Al Jackson Jr,, de drummer van Booker T. & The M.G.'s. Hij leerde ook veel van andere drummers in Jamaica, zoals Santa en Carly van The Wailers, Winston Bennett, Paul Douglas en  Mikey Boo. In 1972 raakte Dunbar bevriend met Robbie Shakespeare, die basgitarist was bij The Hippy Boys. Shakespeare bracht Dunbar in contact met producer Bunny Lee, maar uiteindelijk besloten Dunbar en Shakespeare als duo verder te gaan. Zij werkten met Peter Tosh en zijn band tot 1981 en namen vijf albums met Tosh op. Daarnaast nam Dunbar met The Mighty Diamonds het album ‘Right Time’ op, dat lovende kritieken oogstte. Dunbar en Shakespeare richtten in 1980 het eigen label Taxi Records op, waarop albums en singles werden uitgebracht van vele (internationaal) succesvolle artiesten. Een greep: Black Uhuru, Chaka Demus & Pliers, Ini Kamoze, Beenie Man en Red Dragon. Sly Dunbar speelde bij The Aggrovators voor Bunny Lee, bij The Upsetters voor Lee Perry, bij The Revolutionaries voor Joseph Hoo Kim en nam platen op voor Barry O'Hare in de jaren negentig. Hij was drummer op verschillende bekende nummers die geproduceerd werden door Lee Perry, waaronder ‘Night Doctor’, Junior Murvin's ‘Police And Thieves’ en Bob Marley's ‘Punky Reggae Party’. Sly & Robbie speelden ook op Bob Dylan’s albums ’Infidels’ en ‘Empire Burlesque’. Daarnaast speelde het duo op drie albums van Grace Jones en albums van Herbie Hancock, Joe Cocker, Serge Gainsbourg en The Rolling Stones (‘Undercover’). In 2008 nam Sly Dunbar samen met de Jamaicaanse percussionist Larry McDonald het debuutalbum ‘Drumquestra’ van McDonald op. Dunbar verscheen in 2011 in de documentaire ‘Reggae Got Soul: The Story of Toots and the Maytals’, die uitgezonden werd door de BBC. In 1979 vertelde Brian Eno in een interview een groot bewonderaar te zijn van Sly Dunbar. “Als je een reggae-plaat koopt, dan is er een kans van 90% dat de drummer Sly Dunbar is. Je krijgt dan de indruk dat Sly Dunbar vastgeketend zit aan een stoel in een studio ergens in Jamaica, maar in feite is het zo dat zijn drumspel zo interessant is dat deze keer op keer opnieuw wordt gebruikt.” Sly Dunbar werd dertien keer genomineerd voor een Grammy Award. Hij won twee Grammy’s. Sly Dunbar ruste in vrede!

CONTEMPORARY JAZZ DRUMMER KEVIN PETER JONES ADDS TO THE LEGACY OF BLUES ALLEY WITH A LIVE ALBUM

The all‑star band featuring GRAMMY® winners Randy Brecker and Jeff Lorber releases a live album captured at the historic venue.

WASHINGTON, DC (23 JANUARY 2026): Drummer, producer, and arranger Kevin Peter Jones assembled an all-star band featuring GRAMMY®-winning legends Randy Brecker and Jeff Lorber to play eight sold-out shows at the iconic Blues Alley in Washington, DC. Kevin Peter Jones All-Star Band’s live set, Blues Alley, was released on Friday (January 23) on Pacific Records. The album makes Jones one of only four artists ever granted permission to release a live recording from the storied venue.

To commemorate Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Jones previewed the ten-track Blues Alley by dropping a rendition of the Cannonball Adderley classic “Walk Tall.” The single is a radio-friendly edit of the nearly twelve-minute album opener.

Joining Jones, trumpeter Brecker, and keyboardist Lorber in the star-studded ensemble are GRAMMY® nominees Eric Marienthal (saxophone) and Lenny Castro (percussion). Guitarist Dean Brown played on four GRAMMY®-winning albums and brought his funky, fusion-inflected fretwork to Blues Alley prior to his passing. Senegalese bassist Cheikh Ndoye added world music nuances to the contemporary jazz session. 

“I wanted to bring together musicians who don’t just play notes — they tell stories. Each musician has a voice that’s unmistakable. When you put that kind of talent in one room, the music becomes bigger than any one of us. People ask if having so many strong personalities in one band creates friction. It doesn’t — it creates magic. Everyone listens, everyone reacts, and that’s what makes jazz alive. It’s not about ego; it’s about conversation," said Jones, who served as the album’s producer and executive producer.

Listening to Blues Alley, one experiences masterful musicianship, the power of collaboration, the spontaneous magic of improvisation, and the energy and excitement of a concert performance. Throughout the album, Jones sets the tone with his astute drumming, complex cadences, and locked in rhythms. While the bandleader is a drummer, the drums never overpower the melodic lead keyboards, trumpet, saxophone, or guitar voices.

Jones put together the set list for the four-night stand to reflect his reverence for history and tradition balanced with his passion for innovation. Along with picking a handful of standards, Jones selected compositions penned by a few of his KPJ All-Star Band members: Lorber (“Hudson” and “Surreptitious”), Brown (“Solid”), and Ndoye (“Alchemy East”).

“This album is about resilience and joy. We chose songs that speak to the roots of jazz and soul, but also to the journey we’re on now,” shared Jones, who has recorded with Dave Brubeck, Yellowjackets, and Wayman Tisdale.

After “Walk Tall,” Lorber’s “Hudson” pushes the band in a funkier direction. The fusion keyboard pioneer tears into a mighty solo.

Marienthal’s impassioned saxophone heats up “Valdez in the Country,” a Donny Hathaway original that takes on lyrical quality even when presented here as an instrumental.

Brecker and Lorber bring emotional richness to “You Don’t Know What Love Is,” a song originally recorded by Sonny Rollins that probes the depths of romantic love.  

“That tune is pure emotion. Randy’s trumpet and Jeff’s keys gave it a depth that stopped the room cold. For me, it was about creating space — letting the music breathe so the feeling could come through,” said the Berklee College of Music-trained Jones, who is presently in production on three new albums, including producing his son’s debut disc.

KPJ’s All-Star Band delivers “The Evening News” with authority, taking listeners on a furious fusion foray. Remaking the Yellowjackets’ tune links Jones’s 2010 debut album, Magnetic Journey, to Blues Alley. Yellowjackets members Russell Ferrante, Jimmy Haslip, Mike Miller, and Marienthal appeared on Magnetic Journey.

“Blue Miles” is a bluesy jazz joint culled from Chick Corea’s songbook. Lorber confidently steps into Corea’s shoes on the swinging number that gets a jolt of electricity from the towering horns along with a blistering guitar solo.

“Solid” was a must for Blues Alley in part to honor Brown, who succumbed to cancer in 2024. Jones said, “This album stands as a testament not only to the music but to the spirit of guitarist Dean Brown, whose artistry and generosity left an indelible mark on everyone he played with. Dean’s contributions to ‘Solid’ and throughout the set reflect his trademark blend of funk, sophistication, and soul. Beyond his virtuosity, he was a warm, generous presence who elevated every ensemble he joined.”

“Surreptitious” is rife with intensity and urgency powered by Jones’s fast and frenetic drumming that serves as the foundation for Lorber’s lilting keys.

Ndoye’s rhythmic roots seep into “Alchemy East” bringing together West Africa and American jazz. The taut rhythm section anchored by Jones, Castro, and Ndoye set the tone for experimentation and transformation.

Percussion master Castro closes Blues Alley with a solo piece that punctuates the recording. After a lengthy set filled with massive instrumentation and expansive jams, this sparsely produced track soothes the assembled live audience as well as the album listener.

A Chicago native who lives in the Washington, DC area, Jones has spent three years working to share Blues Alley with the public. Now that the album is widely available, the dedicated educator and mentor who believes that music is “both a discipline and a lifelong calling” reflects on the project from its inception to release date. 

“Blues Alley has always been sacred ground, one of those rare venues where the walls themselves seem to echo the history of jazz. As Blues Alley celebrates its 60th anniversary this year, the timing is perfect for this album. Thanks to Harry Schnipper, the club’s owner and the album’s executive producer, we’re honored to add our voices to the tradition of the historic club. Recording live in such a storied space with this band felt less like a performance and more like joining a living legacy, contributing our own chapter to a history that continues to unfold.”

His artistic pursuit centers on original music, which he writes and performs in genres such as Gospel, R&B, Hip-Hop/Jazz Rap, Smooth Jazz, and Spoken Word. With a catalog of approximately 500 unreleased songs of his own creation, Jeff is dedicated to constantly refining every facet of his craft within the music industry.

A significant milestone in his career was his collaboration with two-time Grammy Award-winning producer Paul Brown on the production of his smooth jazz album, 'INDIGO'. This album, released between 2024 and 2025, achieved resounding success worldwide.

The success continued with the 2025 single 'Silky Smooth',  which earned him a nomination for 'Smooth Jazz Artist of the Year 2025' from Funkmania Smooth Jazz Radio Station.

Jeff is currently promoting his new and energetic single 'Festivus' a vibrant fusion of R&B and Smooth Jazz.

BELGISCHE CAMILLE YEMBE BEKROOND OP MUSIC MOVES EUROPE AWARDS 2026

De Brusselse muziekartieste Camille Yembe heeft een Music Moves Europe Award in de wacht gesleept tijdens het Eurosonic Noorderslag Festival in Groningen. Haar unieke mix van pop, soul en experimentele klanken overtuigde de jury en markeert een belangrijke stap in haar carrière.

De prijs zet opkomend Europees talent met internationale ambities in de kijker en biedt extra zichtbaarheid via optredens op het Nederlandse Eurosonic Festival en het Duitse Reeperbahn Festival. Camille is één van de vijf laureaten; aan de Award is ook een geldprijs van €10.000 verbonden.

ZANGERES LEEZ KOMT MET NAGELNIEUWE CONCERTREEKS

LEEZ sings legends, daarmee bestormt zangeres LEEZ vanaf juni de Vlaamse podia. Het wordt haar allereerste eigen show en concertreeks. Ze komt naar Antwerpen, Hasselt en Gent met LEEZ sings legends, een show vol power en iconische odes en songs. Tickets en info via www.show-time.be.

In juni dit jaar komt LEEZ voor het eerst met een grote soloconcertreeks: Leez sings legends. Ze speelt in de grootste theaters van ons land: Stadsschouwburg Antwerpen, Trixxo Theater Hasselt en Capitole Gent. De nummers die LEEZ zal brengen gaan uit van voor haar evidente beweegredenen. De legendes die ze op het podium brengt, zijn stuk voor stuk hun tijd overstegen. Denk maar aan Prince, Whitney Houston, Céline Dion, maar ook Lady Gaga’s werk zal te horen zijn tijdens deze concerten. “Het is geen show over vroeger” laat Lisa optekenen. “Het is een show die ons brengt naar gevoelens die we allemaal delen, een avond vol herkenbare ontmoetingen. Het zijn allemaal nummers die iedereen kent, muziek die ons allemaal verbindt. Dus ik wil veel verbinding creëren tijdens mijn optredens en samen die muziek beleven”.

LEEZ zal de artiesten waarvan sprake niet zomaar imiteren, maar vooral eren. Ze brengt alles op haar eigen manier met haar eigen stemkleur, maar uiteraard niet zonder de herkenbaarheid te verliezen. Eerste viool in The Masked Singer

Na vele omzwervingen treedt LEEZ meer en meer op de voorgrond. Lisa van Rossem (LEEZ) begon eigenlijk eerder aan haar zangcarrière dan broer Metejoor. Zo deed ze mee aan Eurosong for kids (2005) en The Voice van Vlaanderen (2016). LEEZ was overigens jarenlang backing vocal bij haar broer. Op JOE radio bracht ze in 2024 telkens op dinsdag een pakkende cover, én met succes. Sinds afgelopen week is ze terug elke dinsdag te horen op JOE met nieuwe covers, waar altijd één woord centraal staat: power! Haar sterkte om met kracht en overgave covers te brengen kwam onlangs nog maar tot uiting in het jongste seizoen van The Masked Singer.

STAD GEEL PRESENTEERT VIJFDE EDITIE VIJFJAARLIJKS MASSASPEKTAKEL ‘GHEELAMANIA’

Muzikaal theaterspektakel GheelaMania V: ‘Lelie van het Licht’ strijkt vanaf 8 mei 2026 neer aan stadhuis Geel

Meer dan 400 acteurs, dansers en figuranten brengen verbluffende ode aan geschiedenis, zorgzaamheid en verbondenheid in de ‘Barmhartige Stede’

In mei 2026 zet de stad Geel haar patroonheilige Sint-Dimpna opnieuw extra in de kijker tijdens de vijfjaarlijkse Dimpnadagen. Naast de eeuwenoude Ommegang vormt het grootse totaalspektakel GheelaMania – dat dit jaar toe is aan haar vijde editie - de absolute apotheose van deze festiviteiten.

Iedere editie wordt een aparte invulling gegeven aan dit indrukwekkende muzikale theaterspektakel dat ruim twee weken speelt en gaat over het verhaal van Dimpna, de traditie van gezinsverpleging voor mensen met psychische problemen in ‘de Barmhartige Stede' Geel (erkend door UNESCO als immaterieel erfgoed) en de geschiedenis van de stad.

Vanaf 8 mei 2026 strijkt GheelaMania V: ‘Lelie van het Licht’ neer op het plein voor het stadhuis van Geel. In een indrukwekkende tent en adembenemend decor zullen ruim 400 acteurs, dansers en figuranten - in een regie van Luc Stevens - het beste van zichzelf geven.

Het verhaal

‘Lelie van het Licht’ neemt het publiek tijdens de proloog mee naar de vroege middeleeuwen en toont op spectaculaire wijze hoe de onthoofding van de Ierse prinses Dimpna in Geel, geleid heeft tot het ontstaan van de Geelse Gezinsverpleging en het OPZ (Openbaar Psychiatrisch Zorgcentrum).

Vervolgens wordt de toeschouwer meegenomen naar het heden en volgen we Dana, een Iers meisje dat naar Geel komt voor de Eurofeesten. Ze belandt in een warm gastgezin en ontmoet Berre, een jongen met een bijzonder verleden die onder begeleiding staat van het OPZ. Wat begint als een toevallige ontmoeting, groeit uit tot een intense band tussen twee jongeren met elk hun eigen rugzak.

Tegen de kleurrijke achtergrond van de Eurofeesten, waar verschillende nationaliteiten elkaar ontmoeten, spelen zich mysterieuze gebeurtenissen af. 

Hoofdrollen voor Kempens talent (Geel, Beerse)

Na drie spannende auditierondes en uit meer dan 200 kandidaten werden de 3 hoofdrolspelers voor ‘Lelie van het Licht’ gekozen. Het creatieve team ging voor regionale talenten voor wie het allemaal hun eerste rol in de hoofdcast van een dergelijke productie wordt en die elk apart ook een bijzondere binding met Geel hebben.

Zo zal de rol van Dana vertolkt worden door de 21-jarige Siedse Woestenborghs uit Beerse. Siedse deed de afgelopen jaren al heel wat podium- en camera-ervaring op. Zo was ze te zien in ‘Alleen op de Wereld’ (2019) bij MusicalTalentKempen, vertolkte ze de rol van Juno in ‘Zonnewacht en Maneraad’ (2022), en stond ze als zangeres op het podium tijdens de Nacht van de Eendracht (Dessel, 2024). Daarnaast is ze trots lid van de muzikale vereniging BeersBegot en maakt ze inmiddels al twee jaar deel uit van de cast van de zeer populaire Ketnet-serie #LikeMe.

Haar eerste kennismaking met Luc Stevens Producties vond plaats in Dessel, waar ze een rol speelde in de musical ‘Wettewa’ (2023).

“Naast het feit dat ik heel graag in Geel kom, heb ik altijd ook een link gehad met de stad. Mijn tante, Julienne Nuyts, heeft heel haar leven lang in Geel gewoond en heeft jaar en dag in het toenmalige AZ Sint-Dimpna (nu Ziekenhuis Geel) gewerkt. Dat ik nu één van de hoofdrollen mag spelen in deze productie, voelt dan ook heel bijzonder voor mij”, zo zegt Siedse.

De 17-jarige Ilias Lievens uit Geel speelt een echte thuismatch en mag in de huid kruipen van Berre. Ilias studeert Economische Wetenschappen aan het Sint-Dimpnacollege in Geel en heeft ongeveer twee jaar acteerervaring, onder andere door mee te spelen bij ’t StAt, een amateurtheatergezelschap in Stelen, een deeldorp van Geel. 

Zijn eerste toneelstuk was ‘Met 5 in Bed’ van Yves Caspar, waarin hij de rol van de recensent speelde. Hij heeft nog geen ervaring met grootschalige spektakels of musicals, maar wist te overtuigen tijdens de audities. Ilias kijkt enorm uit naar de voorstellingen en is bijzonder trots dat hij deel uit mag maken van GheelaMania V: ‘Lelie van het Licht’.​​​​​​​

Met de 56-jarige Erwin Van de Put wist nog een inwoner van Geel een hoofdrol te strikken. Hij zal de rol van Declan, vader van Dana, vertolken. Erwin is geboren en getogen Antwerpenaar en zette zijn eerste stappen in de theater- en tv-wereld bij De Nieuwe Speling en Music Hall. 

Nadat hij aan de slag ging als docent bij Thomas More in Geel, volgde ook een verhuis naar de ‘Barmhartige Stede’, waar de theaterkriebel hem naar een voorstelling van GheelaMania III bracht. Hij was meteen helemaal verkocht en enkele jaren later mocht Erwin zelf het podium op bij de volgende editie van dit verbindende project. 

Sinds zijn deelname aan GheelaMania IV voelt Erwin zich een echte Gelenaar en hij is dan ook heel blij dat hij er weer bij mag zijn. “Al was het als boom, dan nog zou ik GheelaMania V niet willen missen”, aldus Erwin.

Het grote publiek zou Erwin Van de Put ook kunnen herkennen van zijn gastrol in ‘Thuis’ (VRT). Erwin speelde van 25 januari 2022 tot en met 11 maart 2022 de rol van Roland Du Champs in de populaire daily.

Ode aan zorgzaamheid en verbondenheid

Het spektakel wordt geregisseerd door creatieve duizendpoot en geboren Gelenaar Luc Stevens, die samen met Dirk Kennis – eveneens uit Geel – ook het auteursduo vormt. De prachtige muziek in dit meeslepende verhaal vol emotie en betoverende scènes, is van de hand van Florejan Verschueren.

‘Lelie van het Licht’ is meer dan een spektakel: het is een ode aan zorgzaamheid, aan verbondenheid, aan de unieke geest van Geel. Een stad die bekendstaat om haar warme, unieke manier van omgaan met mensen.

Het gloednieuwe productiehuis Kadee Producties heeft de eer om met de gerenommeerde musical 'Next to Normal' het splinternieuwe AED Theater in Lint te openen. Met 'Next to Normal' brengt het theaterhuis een pakkende musical over mentaal welzijn. Een topcast met Ann Van den Broeck, Jan Schepens, Luka De Baets, David Cantens, Daan Keisse en Pieter Jan De Paepe zal vanaf 29 mei schitteren op het podium. Tickets en info via kadeeproducties.be.

Kadee Producties ontstond afgelopen zomer uit Kadee Educatief (dat voorstellingen maakt voor scholen) en heeft de eer om een eerste musical te brengen in het gloednieuwe AED Theater. Met ‘Next to Normal’ brengen ze een klassieker van formaat naar Lint en dat met een schitterende cast met o.a. Ann Van den Broeck en Jan Schepens. 

Over Next to Normal
Met ‘Next to Normal’ brengt Kadee Producties krachtige en actuele musicaltheater die diep durft te graven in thema’s als mentale gezondheid, rouw en veerkracht.
In deze intieme en confronterende voorstelling volgen we een gezin dat probeert vast te houden aan het alledaagse, terwijl psychische kwetsbaarheid hun leven beheerst. Centraal in dit moderne gezin staat Diana Goodman (gespeeld door Ann Van Den Broeck), een gewone vrouw en moeder die leeft met een bipolaire stoornis en gekweld wordt door het verleden waardoor oude wonden steeds opnieuw worden opengereten. 

‘Next to Normal’ won al 3 Tony Awards, waaronder Best Original Score en een Pulitzerprijs voor drama (een eer die tot dan toe nog maar aan zeven andere musicals was toegekend).

De voorstelling sluit aan bij het maatschappelijke debat rond mentale gezondheid en richt zich tot een breed publiek: van jongeren en jongvolwassenen tot volwassenen die zichzelf of hun omgeving herkennen in dit verhaal. ‘Next to Normal’ is een intense theaterervaring die raakt, schuurt en blijft nazinderen - omdat ‘normaal’ voor niemand vanzelfsprekend is.

Naast Ann Van den Broeck spelen ook Jan Schepens, Luka De Baets, Daan Keisse, David Cantens en Pieter Jan De Paepe mee.

Over AED Studios
AED Studios in Lint is een iconische locatie, in binnen- en buitenland. Het biedt een huis voor opnames van nationale en internationale producties en is een van de grootste complexen van Europa. Een theaterzaal hadden ze nog niet, maar daar komt nu verandering in.

Bij AED Studios werden tal van (inter)nationale producties opgenomen. Familie, De Buurt-
politie en The Voice van Vlaanderen zijn maar enkele nationale formats, maar ook internationale kaskrakers als Kursk en Grace of Monaco werden bij AED gefilmd. Ook de repetities voor de internationale show Holiday on Ice vonden plaats in Lint. De gigantische watertank die gebruikt wordt voor o.a. filmdecors is wereldberoemd.

CEO Glenn Roggeman: "Live beleving zit eigenlijk al heel lang in het DNA van AED Studios. We werken dagelijks mee aan verhalen die mensen raken, maar vaak gebeurt dat achter de schermen of voor een camera. Met deze theaterzaal zetten we bewust een stap naar voren, richting het publiek zelf. LOS ANGELES, Calif. (5 JANUARY 2026): Innervision Records dominated the three major smooth jazz charts in 2025, marking one of the strongest years in the label’s 27-year history. Powered by two No. 1 hits from guitarist Blake Aaron and a No. 1 hit by flutist Kim Scott, Innervision Records closed out the year as Billboard and Mediabase’s No. 3 Label of the Year for the sixth consecutive year.

R&B/jazz guitarist Blake Aaron enjoyed the most successful year of his recording career, as his two Billboard chart-toppers, “Let’s Get Lost” and “Dare To Fly,” made him Billboard’s No. 2 Artist of the Year and the No. 1 Artist of the Year on the Mediabase and Radiowave charts. “Let’s Get Lost” was Billboard’s No. 5 Single of the Year and Radiowave’s No. 4 Single of the Year.  

“I feel incredibly grateful and blessed to have received my ninth Billboard No. 1 as an artist and my eighth No. 1 as a producer. It has been a long time dream of mine to reach hundreds of millions of people on an emotional and spiritual level with my music, and every day I feel closer to realizing that dream,” said Aaron, who will release a new single, “The Upside,” on January 30.

Scott, who released her sixth Innervision Records album, “Livin’ It Up,” last February, is also Mediabase’s No. 10 Artist of the Year.
